Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors...and a chance to win some awesome prizes! On this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize--one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!
Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SIX contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the PURPLE TEAM--but there is also a red team, a gold team, a green team, a blue team, and a pink team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!
If you'd like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.
MEET JULIA DAY
Today, I’m hosting Julia Day on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Julia Day is an award-winning author of Young Adult fiction. She lives in North Carolina (USA), halfway between the beaches and the mountains, along with two twenty-something daughters, one old husband, and too many computers to count. When she’s not writing stories or software, she’s traveling to distant places or baking something she probably shouldn't eat. Julia also writes YA magical realism as Elizabeth Langston.

SCAVENGER HUNT POST
FADE TO US is a story about found families, the bond of sisterhood, and the agony and awe of first love.
Brooke's summer is going to be EPIC -- having fun with her friends and a job that finally lets her buy a car. Then her new stepfather announces his daughter is moving in. Brooke has always longed for a sibling, so she's excited about spending more time with her stepsister. But she worries, too. Natalie has Asperger's--and Brooke's not sure how to be the big sister that Natalie needs.
After Natalie joins a musical theater program, Brooke sacrifices her job to volunteer for the backstage crew. She's mostly there for Natalie, but Brooke soon discovers how much she enjoys being part of the show. Especially sweet is the chance to work closely with charming and fascinating Micah--the production's stage manager.
When her summer finally comes to an end, will Brooke finally have the family she so desperately wants--and the love she's only dreamed about?
EXCLUSIVE CONTENT: Deleted Scene from Micah's POV
When Brooke broke the rules yesterday, I should've fired her. Right then. Zero tolerance. But I couldn't. She's the best volunteer I've ever worked with on a production. The show would miss her.
I would miss her.
Tonight, she asked me to hang out with her. It's a terrible idea. I'm kind of her boss. I have to keep our relationship professional. But she's confident we'll keep it friendly and not too personal.
Not possible. My feelings have already become personal. Brooke is sweet and fun and easy to talk to. When we're together, everything just clicks. When we're apart, I can't wait until I see her again.
Dating Brooke would be amazing. I know this even though I've never actually been on a real date before. Have never been able to find someone I was interested in at the same time she was interested in me. The one time I'd screwed my courage to the sticking-place, the girl didn't get the message. She thought I was joking and laughed. Epic fail.
It would be different with Brooke. I wish we could try. I wish I believed we wouldn't let it interfere with our jobs.
I can't help wondering, though, so I bring up a browser window and search on first date. There are millions of hits. Cute First Dates. Cheap First Dates. Not-Lame First Dates. YouTube tutorials for Kissing on First Dates.
Yeah, that last one sidetracked me for ten minutes.
Okay, back to ideas. It doesn't take me long to create a Top Ten List of Dates, tailored for Brooke.
1. Hike (let her pick where)
2. Bake cookies (chocolate chip)
3. Attend a baseball game
4. Watch a movie under the stars
5. Picnic in the sculpture garden at the art museum
6. Go on a "progressive" dinner (different stops for appetizers, entrée, dessert)
7. Meet for a late-night run, then hit the Waffle House at midnight
8. Volunteer at an animal shelter
9. Plan, shop for, and cook a meal together
10. Watch the sun rise over the lake
It's a good list. I'm ready--if I ever change my mind.
